PF Bodoni Script

Inspired by Giambattista Bodoni’s 'Manuale Tipografico' (1818), this project began in 2000 with an in-depth study of one of the most important type specimen books ever printed. Issued in Parma, Italy, by Bodoni’s widow, the two-volume work features 142 Roman alphabets alongside foreign scripts such as Greek and Cyrillic.

Rather than serving as a direct digital revival, the typeface draws from Bodoni’s distinctive script capitals and reinterprets them with connected characters and enhanced calligraphic details. Matching lowercase italics were designed to complete the series.

First released in 2002 and published in the award-winning IDEA catalog, the project was later expanded to include ornaments, borders, and advanced OpenType features. Bodoni Script is now a three-weight family supporting Latin and Greek, with ten OpenType features, 725 glyphs per font, 144 ornaments, and an additional frame font composed of 120 modular border elements, available separately or as part of the complete family.
