Recently, D&AD invited Panos Vassiliou, who was appointed President of the Type Design Competition, to write an article on how typography affects the visual language of a brand. Ethnos is one of the oldest and most respected Greek newspapers. The paper has collaborated with Parachute@ to bring to life a new masthead and a new font that is now easier to read. The redesign centres around the replacement of the paper’s red and white masthead with a new wordmark which has a renewed strength and confidence to represent the paper's place and mission. The new font is simple, confident, taller, easier to read while staying true to the paper's visual style. Ethnos is using a range of energetic colours at the front page, whereas the use of colours inside the paper is more conservative often restricted to only two colours.
